On Saturday, August 8, the New York State police arrested a 23-year-old man who robbed several homes in the village of Kiryas Joel.

As of Sunday, Bergin Perez of Monroe remained behind bars after allegedly burglarizing several houses on Getzel Berger Boulevard and Israel Zupnich Drive early Saturday morning at about 5:30 am. The suspect, who also lives in Kiryas Joel on Bakertown Road, went on a robbing spree after staying up all night drinking at a Newburgh bar.

According to police, most of the victims were asleep. However, one woman woke up while Perez was in her home, and he allegedly choked her.

The suspect, identified as Bergin Perez, who lives on Bakertown Road in the Village of Kiryas Joel, embarked on a burglary spree Saturday morning after a night of drinking at a bar in Newburgh. At around 5:30 a.m., he burglarized several homes on Getzel Berger Blvd and Israel Zupnich Drive, and in several instances accosted residents who were sleeping, police said.

According to State Police in Monroe, the 911 call was placed at 5:59 a.m. and Perez was placed under arrest at 6:05 a.m.

On Monday, Perez was charged with the felony of burglary in the second degree, with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal obstruction of breathing. He was arraigned in the Town of Monroe Court and is being held in Orange County jail on $25,000 bail.
