Governor Andrew Cuomo continues to move to the political left.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and other government officials are joining forces to pressure Governor Andrew Cuomo further to the political left — under threat to keep his word on “progressive” promises, according to The New York Post.

The “progressive” promises made by Cuomo include: higher minimum wage, the “Dream Act’’ for illegal immigrants, public financing of elections and — most importantly — the retaking of the state Senate by Democrats next year.

According to The Post, a state Democrat who has frequent contact with the governor believes that it’s important for Cuomo to demonstrate he’s part of what happening in the Democratic Party – a sharp move to the left.

“He’s worked hand-in-glove with the Senate Republicans in the last two election cycles, and he’s made enemies out of the teachers and other public-employee unions, the anonymous state Democrat said, per New York Post’s Frederick U. Dicker. “But in the coming year, Cuomo knows, as Zephyr Teachout showed him, that if he wants a third term, he needs to deliver for the Democratic Party,’’ he continued, referring to the virtually unknown leftist law professor who won a startling 34 percent of the vote against Cuomo in last September’s primary.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli — both well-received by the Democratic Party — could be in the running to challenge Cuomo when reelection hits in 2017. Both candidates, with the support from party activists and union leaders could threaten Cuomo’s tenure.

Scheiderman and DiNapoli have stated on numerous occasions that they’d be “open to it,” when asked about challenging Cuomo according to Dicker.

Democratic strategist and adviser to Cuomo Hank Sheinkopf admits that the governor faces a difficult road ahead. Sheinkopf went as far to say how the mayor’s willingness to publicly attack Cuomo has left the governor with potential vulnerability come reelection.

“The fact that de Blasio is now savaging Andrew is a sign of how far he has fallen,’’ said the one-time aide, per Dicker’s article. “De Blasio is saying what people had wanted to say for years, ripping the mask off of Andrew’s pathologically cynical brand of politics,’’ the former aide continued.

On the sidelines cheering the de Blasio/Cuomo clash is state GOP Ed Cox, who believes that the controversy will “only help the Republican Party’s chances at defeating de Blasio in 2017,” Cox told The Post.

“I think our chances against de Blasio were getting progressively better as we observed him making one mistake after another, and now you have him displaying a political ineptness that is hurting the City of New York,’’ Cox continued according to The Post.

Whether or not Cuomo meets his party’s demands remain to be unseen. The power is in his hands to win over the public and his party once more prior to election in 2017.
