Police arrive at the main entrance to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel following a shooting in the lobby during a wedding in the Manhattan borough of New York

A Jewish couple is suing the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City for millions after guest Vladimir Gotlibovsky’s 9mm Ruger discharged, grazing a nearby woman in the head.

Anna Goldshmidt and new husband Elan Stratiyevsky have now hired famed lawyer Benjamin Brafman, a renowned criminal defense attorney, to sue the hotel, and the unintentional shooter, for millions for ruining their big day, according to the NY Post.

Brafman told the post, “We are planning to sue the Waldorf for the costs of the wedding and the emotional harm suffered by the bride and groom, whose dream wedding was destroyed for no reason whatsoever by Waldorf personnel. A suit is also contemplated against the shooter, whose recklessness created the havoc.”

Due to their inability to locate the firearm by the time the couple’s reception was supposed to start, the Waldorf hotel decided to call off the event, tossing out the food and flowers upon cancellation. The couple plans to sue for the full cost of the wedding for 350 guests, including photography, drink and entertainment expenses.

A Waldorf Astoria New York spokesperson said, “We certainly understand and appreciate Ms. Goldschmidt’s disappointment; however, the decision to cancel the reception was based on the paramount concerns of the safety and security of our guests and team members, including the guests of her wedding.”
