It’s rather strange but welcome that the monkey wrench thrown into President Obama’s efforts to strike a nuclear deal with Iran comes not from Israel, the only democratic nation in the Middle East, but from Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. The kings of both of these countries are refusing to attend a conference set up to meet at Camp David, MD., for the purpose of building Arab Support for a nuclear deal with Iran. Six nations comprising the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) which includes Saudi Arabia, The UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman were invited but only the leaders of Qatar and Kuwait, at this point, will be in attendance. A rather lonely and toothless summit, indeed.

However, are we observing here, the machinery of the Arab Marketplace in operation? Will these nations eventually bargain their approval of such a suicidal deal in exchange for increased military aid from the United States and Europe including cruise missiles, drones, advanced surveillance equipment and the F-35 fighter plane? Will they be bought off with these gifts which might someday prove a threat to Israel? The actions of these Islamic states have been problematical in the past but with the fragility of Obama’s Iran policies there is no telling how all of the participants in this game will play their cards for their individual advantage.

Israel now stands alone, an apparent outcast in these proceedings. Its only advantage at this point is the total support it gets from the U.S. congress which stands firmly by its side. The upcoming presidential elections indicate that every single Republican candidate has come out against Obama’s proposed nuclear deal with Iran. They are all opposed to any removal of the sanctions which have actually forced that nation to the bargaining table. Legislation has already been passed to actually increase them if Iran refuses to comply with the demands originally set out as our guidelines for dealing with this rogue nation.

The clock is ticking. There is a June 30th deadline in place for settling with Iran. At this point all we can do is pray for our nation to make the right decision which would be to show some backbone in these negotiations forcing that Islamic terrorist nation to shut down its nuclear program.
