Thomas Friedman of the New York Times has made a career out of repeatedly lambasting Israel. Now he has chosen to join his compatriots in the left-leaning media by launching a blistering assault on Israel benefactor Sheldon Adelson
Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson is a frequent target of the liberal media’s wrath

In a recent column, Thomas Friedman, the anti-Israel sniper of the New York Times, trains his cross hairs on a major financial benefactor of that nation, fellow Jew, Sheldon Adelson. Tom writes of Adelson’s double crime: that of being both a supporter of Israel and of the Republican Party. One wonders which is more offensive to the columnist.

Mr. Adelson is one of the wealthiest people in this country. His Dad was a cabdriver in Boston while his Mom ran a small knitting shop. He attended the freebie City College of New York City until he dropped out to join the army. The rest is history. Now he’s a billionaire. The classic American rags to riches dream. He is loyal to Israel and to the American Jewish community. He gave over $100,000,000 to Birthright Israel. This helped promote the program that sends Jews from the ages of 18-26 to Israel…..FREE. He has donated over $25,000,000 to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. He’s a committed Jew.

There’s where Sheldon and Thomas part company. A bit of a different bio for Friedman whose family put him through Brandeis University and Oxford. And speaking of Brandeis, Friedman, the Jew, during the 1970’s, led the radical Middle East Peace Group in its marches around the university calling for a Palestinian state and supporting the terrorist Yasser Arafat and his PLO. Over these many years Friedman hasn’t changed. He still is championing the creation of a Palestinian state notwithstanding the threats emanating from its current terrorist leader Mahmoud Abbas, to destroy the Jewish nation.

He has been notably silent in his writings about another millionaire, former Jew, George Soros, who has been pouring millions of dollars into the coffers of the likes of the Palestinian Authority. Soros, the former Nazi collaborator in Hungary in WWII has never been castigated by Tom for his anti-Israel vocalizing and for his funding of the Palestinians.

Silence as well about Soros not dropping any substantial sums for the support of Israel or for causes focusing on Jewish charities here at home. His spokesman, Michael Vachon, told the press that Soros, “has never focused his philanthropy on Jewish causes.” In 2009, Adelson, in contrast, was quoted by the JTA that his criteria for giving was, “Whatever is good for the Jewish community and whatever is good for the State of Israel.” We proudly call this guy, “A mensch!” A big difference between both these wealthy guys but Friedman only puts the hit on Adelson. We wonder why?

Adelson’s passion for conservative values in this country also rubs Friedman the wrong way. It seems to be difficult for a dyed in the wool leftist writer to accept that contributions by private citizens and unions to any party of their choice is protected by the Constitution. If Adelson wants to contribute millions to conservative causes and candidates, that’s his business. We find it strange however, that Friedman only finds fault with those funders on the Right and never with those on the Left.

Tom Steyer, a hedge fund billionaire, recently poured over 74 million dollars on candidates spouting the Global Warming line. The Hollywood crew has thrown hundreds of millions of bucks into the coffers of the Democrats plus having their stars headlining galas, parties and fund raisers for Democrat candidates. National unions have raised billions for the Democrat Party. But that’s their right. It’s the American way!

Soros has been a major benefactor of J Street, that notorious Israel bashing organization. He has been the top donator to the Democrat Party and was the mainstay checkwriter for Obama’s campaigns. However, Steyer and Soros have never been chastised for their political contributions. We wonder why?

Frankly, we’ve had it with Mr. Friedman. His history of siding with the Arabs in their plots against Israel is disturbing. He has called Israel, “A Jewish South Africa” and referred to it as, “Yad Vashem with an air force.” Further, Friedman, back in 2002 touted the infamous “Two State Solution” proposed by then Crown Prince Abdullah of Arabia.

This suicidal idea went like this: Israel would completely withdraw from all of the occupied territories, including the Golan Heights, to the June 4 1967 line, Palestinian refugees would be granted a right to return, Jerusalem would be a shared capital and a Palestinian state would be formed in the West Bank and Gaza. In other words, back to the 1948 borders! And this outragious plan was backed by Friedman who claims to be just an unbiased columnist.

Sadly, Friedman is not alone in his anti-Israel writings and his paper the NYT has much company among the print and electronic media in their denunciations of Israel. We Jews and our Christian supporters have got to stand firm in our resolve not to be taken in by those in the public limelight who sow the seeds of hate against the Jewish State. We have got to educate ourselves with the facts and then stand up and speak up loudly whenever they attempt to denounce Israel’s attempts to remain a free, democratic and G-dly nation.
