Iconic rock star Alan Parsons said, “Music knows no borders, and neither do I;” after Roger Waters posted his failed attempt to get Parsons to boycott Israel.

Ahead of internationally famous rock star Alan Parsons’ performance in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, February 10, anti-Israel musician Roger Waters formerly of Pink Floyd published his call on Parsons to cancel the show as part of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Waters noted that Parsons responded to his letter and asked for the response not to be published, which Waters honored – but as Parsons made clear on Facebook Monday night, Waters “failed to comply with my clearly stated desire that the whole matter of his ‘problem’ with my concert in Israel should remain private between the two of us.”

“He has now pressed his case in two open letters on his Facebook page without any published defence from me. So in the circumstances, I have decided to make my (originally personal) reply to him public,” wrote Parsons, noting he has no further comment on the matter.

In the letter that Parsons published, he wrote Waters saying “I appreciate your note and your passion. However, this is a political matter and I am simply an artist. I create music, that is my raison d’être.”

“Everyone – no matter where they reside, what religion they follow, or what ideology they aspire to – deserves to hear it if they so choose,” emphasized the rock legend. “Music knows no borders, and neither do I.”

Parsons, whose band the Alan Parsons Project is appearing on Tuesday, wrote in his Facebook post that he thanks “all our Israeli fans in advance for their loyalty, support, and for attending our show in Tel Aviv.”

Before establishing his Alan Parsons Project in 1975, which has enjoyed seven top 40 albums, Parsons gained international fame for sound engineering on albums including “Abbey Road” and “Dark Side of the Moon.”
