Rags to riches to charges do not seem to bother Simon Garber – or Symon Garber if he’s being charged with something. Born in Odessa, Ukraine, he moved with his parents to New York City in 1978. At the age of 18, to help pay for college, he operated two cabs. Eventually he came to operate 275 medallions, though he claims to have more than 400 to his name.

Recently Garber’s company Yellow Cab SLS Jet Management Corp. paid a $1.6 million fine to settle charges that it fraudulently collected late fees on more than 2,000 cab drivers. This doesn’t stop the CEO from enjoying his favorite past time: playing polo at the International Polo Club of Colts Neck (which Garber founded in Colts Neck, NJ).

Now, he has put up his Tribeca penthouse at 101 Warren St for $27 million. The New York Post reports that his 21st floor condo at Trump World Tower is also for sale, although the price has dropped from $4.395 million to $4.1 million.

Garber has faced some heat from the press over his spurious late fees, as well as his use of junked cars for his Chicago taxi service. Between the rise of Uber and Lyft, and Garber’s sometimes strange legal charges (he was charged with burglary, criminal mischief  and trespassing for stripping down to his briefs and hosing off in his neighbor’s yard before then entering his neighbor’s home and using their shower), we wonder if he is heading to the polo pitch for good. We just hope, in this market, he can keep his pants on.
