With just a few short weeks to go until the big celebration, the giant 15 arrived in Times Square on Tuesday, Dec 16th

New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, and preparations are underway for the ball drop. With just 15 days to go until the big celebration, the giant 15 arrived in Times Square on Tuesday, Dec 16th

The 7-foot-high number 15 will replace a portion of the giant “2014” that helps ring in the new year. NY1 spoke to people in Times Square who said the numbers make them excited for the year ahead. “I’ve always wanted to come down for New Year’s. I just never had the opportunity, and I’m not going to get to this year, but I was still able to see it anyway,” said one person in Times Square.

“It’s the start of our process of winding down 2014, looking at where we’ve been and how we want things to be new or different in 2015,” said Tim Tompkins, president of the Times Square Alliance. Don’t forget to join NY1 for our Countdown to 2015 show. The station will have live coverage of the big party from Times Square. NY1 will talk to revelers before midnight and then, just before the ball drops, the station will stop the commentary so viewers can enjoy the sights and sounds of the celebration.

The hour-and-a-half-long special begins on New Year’s Eve at 11 p.m.
