The American Jewish leadership has had over seventy years to prepare itself for the virulent hate currently being unleashed worldwide against its brothers and sisters. There is no country that is not experiencing an incendiary rebirth of Nazi-like intolerance against its peaceful, productive and loyal Jewish citizens. We stand aghast at the total silence of governments and even their support for such vile behavior. If you’re reading this paper, you’re aware of this race to Holocaust II.

So where are our own Jewish leaders to defend us even from home-grown anti-Semitism? The New York Metropolitan Opera, led by a Jew, Peter Gelb, will soon have performances of “The Death of Klinghoffer,” an opera blatantly anti Israel and anti Jew. It invigorates the already steaming hatred of Palestinians and other Muslim fanatics against Jews. ADL’s Abe Foxman declared a victory when the Met canceled its television streaming of the opera but he approved of the live performance. A weak and naive move. But at least he whispered his complaint. But other major groups whose principal function apparently is to suck in tens of millions of Jewish dollars, have crawled under the carpet and have remained mute on this issue. Have you seen or heard anything relating to this subject from the NYC UJA-Federation, the local JCRCs, the American Jewish Committee, Hadassah, ORT chapters and even from synagogues around the city? Not a word of complaint from them nor the rousing up of the community to fight this overt hatred spewed out from the stage of the Met.

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA), the umbrella for most American Jewish organizations came out with an August 27th statement supporting the St. Louis Federation in their mourning for Michael Brown, a black teenager who was killed by a Ferguson, Missouri policeman. Great! But why not some concern for the dangerous ramifications of the performances of “The Death of Klinghoffer?” Millions of Jewish lives are at stake here.

The High Holy days are creeping up on us. And that means millions of envelopes will be flowing through the mails and jammed into our letter boxes in order to fill the insatiable funding needs of Jewish organizations. They have absolutely no reluctance in demanding dollars to keep their doors open. By the same token, we should not hesitate to return these postpaid envelopes, enclosing not checks but our demands for them to start fighting for the Jewish community’s safety and security. Tell them to focus on our needs. Direct them to wake up to Jew hating in our own neighborhoods. Challenge them to get off the road of Political Correctness and instead educate them to understand that the seeds of another Holocaust are already rooting in the minds of the enemies of Judaism and have to be denied the nourishment to flourish. As guardians of the Jewish people they have to begin to take action. That’s their job. Get it done!!! Or get lost!
