Mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided how to spend his final days in office. Following a 12-year tenure, the Bloomberg administration announced its plans to celebrate his legacy.

Howard Wolfson, Bloomberg’s deputy mayor for government affairs, in a memo titled “T-Minus 15 Days,” a new website was unveiled that details New York City’s progress under the outgoing mayor. The site, announced Monday, December 16, and stated that “starting tomorrow the Mayor will visit each of the five boroughs over the next five days to highlight key Administration initiatives and success from throughout the last 12 years.”

“These events will highlight areas like parks, economic development, education, immigration, technology, transportation, infrastructure, livable cities, housing, crime, public health and the arts,” the memo released to the press announced, according to Capital New York.

Bloomberg’s final speech as mayor is to occur this week on Wednesday, December 17, the memo said. “Wednesday he will give a major speech – his last as Mayor – at the Economic Club on the rise of American cities, the strategies needed to continue urban progress and the threats cities face.”

The Wolfson-penned memo ended with the following: “We look forward to serving you for the next 15 days and thank you for your interest.”

Also on Monday, December 16, was Bloomberg’s first stop on his farewell tour: He made an appearance on ABC’s “The View” to announce plans for his five-day tour. On the program the outgoing mayor talked about what he said he is most proud of, in regards to the legacy he is trying to impart upon New Yorkers: the “dramatically better” schools, low crime rates and the city’s rising life expectancy, the Daily News reported.

And the mayor did not just shower himself in praise, he expressed regrets as well while on the program, calling his failed soft drink ban a “disappointment.”

Among his fans, close friend Barbara Walters, made the following comment, according to the News: “I would like to point out that you and I got married, supposedly, on this program,” she said, referring to an episode in which Bloomberg appeared on the show because Walters had named him the man she’d most like to marry.

“It was never consummated, and now maybe you will have the chance,” she said. The show ended before Bloomberg, who is in a relationship with investment banker Diana Taylor, had a chance to respond.

And up next on his tour, following his final speech on Wednesday is his “victory ride on Friday, December 20th, when the MTA will run a special “dignitary train” along the not-yet-open extension of the No. 7 line from Times Square to 34th St. and 11th Ave. so the mayor can take a victory ride. The No. 7 line extension was a project of Bloomberg’s.
