Bloomberg has gone so far as to praise the governor’s record but has still stopped short of actually announcing his endorsement of the governor at this time. At a press conference on Tuesday, December 3, Bloomberg is reported to have said “Governor Cuomo has done a very good job for the year-and-a-half he’s been governor, I guess? How long has he been governor now? Three years? Three years. He’s done such a good job that it seems like a short period of time–even better than [time seeming to go in] the other direction.”
“Governor Cuomo’s doing a very good job and I’ll leave that up to the voters. And I will vote, you can be rest assured, in the next governor election. You can also be rest assured that I won’t tell you who I’m going to go vote for,” he said, according to the Times.
Bloomberg famously refused to endorse either mayoral candidate in this November’s election in New York City. When reporters pushed him about an endorsement for Cuomo on Tuesday he did suggest that Cuomo would likely have his support should he ask for it.
“Yes I did,” he said of his endorsement three years ago. “We will have to see. He has not asked me to endorse him. He’s not told me that he’s running. So I don’t know. I mean, it’s a hypothetical question and you would never expect me to answer.”
