The daughter of billionaire Revlon Chairman Ronald Perelman testified for two straight days in a New Jersey courtroom last week in a trial regarding her share of an inheritance from her grandfather’s estate.

Under cross-examination, 23-year-old Samantha Perelman said she believed her uncle, James Cohen, took advantage of her grandfather Robert Cohen’s vulnerable state to make him change his will, reducing her inheritance, before he died last year at the age of 86.

Cohen’s attorneys have countered that Samantha’s father has been trying to acquire the Hudson News, which his father founded. The company was sold for more than $800 million in 2008. James Cohen has managed the newsstand company since the mid-1990s. There have been a series of lawsuits filed by Ronald Perelman in several states and all have ended with a series of defeats for him.

The cross-examination of Samantha Perelman focused on her uncle’s claims that her father Ronald Perelman is the real culprit behind the litigation. Her uncle’s attorney’s implied that her father is orchestrating the ongoing battle and that his daughter Samantha is merely a pawn in her father’s ongoing game to reacquire the Hudson News.

While being cross-examined, Benjamin Clarke, an attorney for James Cohen, pointed out to Samantha that Ronald Perelman is paying her legal fees in the case to illustrate his involvement in the ongoing lawsuit and inheritance dispute.

“This witness is entirely beholden to Ronald Perelman for distribution from her mother’s estate, and that renders her subject to influence by her father, and control by her father,” Clarke said.

But Samantha Perelman has repeatedly insisted under oath that it was her decision to file the lawsuit.

“I think that you are bringing my father into this to make an example out of my father, and not taking into account that he was my mother’s best friend, she was the love of his life — he filed that suit to tried to protect her,” she said, referring to Ronald Perelman’s prior suit.
