Chaim Deutsch for City Council (Brooklyn’s 48th district)

As a lifelong Brooklynite, Chaim Deutsch founded the Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol as a response to a rising crime rate in New York. With a desperate need for increased safety and security in our community, Deutsch stepped up to the plate.  The Flatbush Shomrim began with just a few volunteers, and soon his vision brought our community the phenomenal powerhouse organization it is today. Twenty one years after the first patrol hit the streets, the Flatbush Shomrim now boasts a 50 volunteer patrol group. They are backed by a 24-hour hotline, portable radios, immediate response teams, a state-of-the-art mobile command center and the respect and esteem of the New York City Police Department. Deutsch is also a graduate of the NYPD Citizen’s Police Academy. As one who has displayed his commitment to his neighbors, community and the entire city of New York, we endorse Mr. Deutsch for city council in Brooklyn’s 48th district.

Joe Lhota, Candidate for Mayor of New York City (R).

As former MTA Chairman and deputy mayor under Rudy Guiliani, Joe Lhota, the Republican candidate for mayor of New York is clearly the most qualified person to lead the nation’s most vibrant city. Protecting the citizens of the Big Apple is Lhota’s number one concern and will implement measures to keep crime rates down and neighborhoods safe. Unlike his opponent, Lhota has no political agenda and wants New York City to be a place in where all people, from all backgrounds and all socio-economic levels can enjoy the benefits of a prosperous economy, the finest schools and an affordable tax rate.

Charles J. Hynes, Brooklyn District Attorney

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes’ enduring legacy as tough crime fighter and advocate of the people of Kings County make him the best choice to continue his job. In 2005, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Mr. Hynes started a United States Department of Justice funded Family Justice Center – a one stop shopping service for victims of domestic violence and their surviving children. Hynes started one of the first Drug Treatment Alternative-to-Prison (DTAP) programs for chronic drug offenders in the country.  Mr. Hynes is now spearheading a groundbreaking alternative-to-prison program for mothers and their children through a not-for-profit foundation named in honor of his mother, Regina Drew.  The Drew Foundation is planning to operate the first residence of its kind in the country in which women will be permitted to remain with all of their children in a secure, community-based setting while receiving intensive trauma-focused, rehabilitative services.
