The event was attended by rabbis and heads of yeshivas affiliated with Shas. Participants included Rabbi Yosef’s sons, the former Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar, among others. Shas’s Knesset members were in attendance as well.
Last week, Rabbi Yosef underwent an operation to implant a pacemaker for his heart, and the hospital said the operation had been carried out successfully
A day later, he underwent successful dialysis treatment, following which doctors described his condition as “stable.”
However, the rabbi’s condition soon took a turn for the worse after scans revealed fluid in his lungs, leading Shas officials to cancel Sukkot celebrations and call for mass prayers on his behalf. Since last week, he has been is sedated and artificially respirated, but doctors over the weekend decided to give him certain medicines in smaller quantities than before, resulting in the rabbi briefly opening his eyes over the Sabbath.
