Larger-than-life real estate mogul and television personality has found himself in the crosshairs of New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Scheneiderman has alleged that Trump University, the Donald’s series of lectures and seminars about success, is nothing more than a scam. The state has filed suit against Trump for damages in the amount of $40 million.

According to Schneiderman’s allegations, Trump defrauded some five thousand would-be real estate moguls of amounts ranging from $1,495 to $3,500. The claimants say they were under the impression that tuition included “individual instruction until they made their first deal”, and were thus handily swindled. USA Today reported that, “many of the wannabe moguls were unable to land even one real estate deal and were left far worse off than before the lessons, facing thousands of dollars in debt for the seminar program.”

Trump, who donated 12.5 thousand dollars to Schneiderman’s 2010 campaign for office, calls the suit “politically motivated” because he failed to raise enough money for the AG’s campaign.

“He sits up in my office asking me for campaign contributions; he’s been there numerous times. He’s a political hack. He figures by going after Trump, he can get some publicity, which he will get, but we’ll try and make it uncomfortable as possible,” Trump said on Fox & Friends.

Trump continued to claim that the suit was filed following a Thursday evening meeting Schneiderman had with Obama.

“They meet on Thursday evening. I get sued by this A.G. Schneiderman, I get sued on Saturday at 1 o’clock. Think of it. What government agency in the history of this country has ever brought a suit on a Saturday? I never heard of such a thing,”

“They obviously did it very quickly, but probably Obama — maybe this is a mini IRS. Maybe we have to get the tea party after these people because this could very well be a mini IRS,” Trump said.

Schneiderman shot back that he had more important things to discuss with Obama than the lawsuit in question.

“The president and I had much more important stuff to talk about than Donald Trump. [The president] was giving a speech about education in Syracuse about affordability. I’ve never discussed Donald Trump with the president,” Schneiderman said.

Trump has set up a site called 98percentaproval.com, a reference to the amount of students who ranked his program “excellent”, to track the AG’s “gross incompetence”.

“Only 4 percent of New York . . . voters rated Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s performance as ‘excellent,’ ’’ the site says.
