“Paper Moon” won O’Neal a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1973 at the age of 10, making her the youngest Oscar-winner in history. Bogdanovich later directed her in the 1976 film “Nickelodeon.”
“Squirrels to the Nuts” stars Imogen Pootsas a prostitute who gets a shot as a Broadway actress thanks to a married theater director (Wilson) who falls for her charms. Aniston co-stars as an unprofessional therapist, while Joanna Lumley will play her mother.Debi Mazur has been cast as Poots’madame, while Richard Lewis and Cybil Shepherd will play the girl’s parents.
Bogdanovich, 73, has had a diverse career in Hollywood as not only a director but also an actor, critic, and respected film historian. Bogdanovich was influenced by the French critics of the 1950s who wrote for Cahiers du Cinéma, especially critic-turned-director François Truffaut. Before becoming a director himself, he built his reputation as a film writer with articles in Esquire. These articles were collected in the book 1973 book “Pieces of Time.”
His most acclaimed film was 1971’s “The Last Picture Show.”
A noted ladies’ man, Bogdanovich has dated numerous notable women, including Shepherd and Playboy model Dorothy Stratten, who was later murdered by her husband. Stratten’s life was the subject of Bob Fosse’s 1983 film “Star 80.”
In 1988, the 49-year-old Bogdanovich married 20-year-old Louise Stratten, Dorothy’s younger sister, whom he had begun dating when she was only 14, two years after Dorothy’s death. The couple divorced in 2001. The marriage was viewed as a scandal because of his previous engagement to her sister.
Oddly enough, Louise Stratten is one of the executive producers of “Squirrels to the Nuts.” The film is currently in production in New York.
