Speaking at the annual Israel Bonds Architects, Engineers and Construction luncheon, New York Consul General Ido Aharoni lauded Tel Aviv’s collection of modern buildings, including the famous Bauhaus style. There are over 4,000 Bauhaus buildings built in Tel Aviv from the 1930s by German- Jewish architects who immigrated to the Israel. This, Ambassador Aharoni pointed out, has brought international attention to the city and has resulted in UNESCO naming Tel Aviv a World Cultural Heritage site that has successfully adapted modern international architectural trends to local physical and cultural circumstances.

Over $2 million for Israel’s economic development was raised at the event that honored Jay Badame, president and COO of Tishman Construction, and Lia Gartner, vice-president for design and construction at The New School.

Ambassador Aharoni told the story of the prominent German visitor who was shown the famous Mann Auditorium concert hall in Tel Aviv and was deeply impressed. In the story, the German visitor said to his hosts that it was a wonderful thing that Israel had named the magnificent building in honor of the great German humanist and anti-Nazi author Thomas Mann.

“No,” his hosts replied.”This is named after a different Mann. Frederick Mann of Philadelphia.”

“Oh, what did he write?” the German tourist asked.

“He,” said the guide, “wrote a check.”

Over the years the Israel Bonds Architects, Engineers, and Construction division—representing the leaders of New York’s architecture, engineering and construction fields— has raised many millions of dollars in bonds sales. The division is chaired by Stuart Koshner, RC Dolner, LLC; Leonard Koven, AKF Group, LLC; Douglas C. Mass, Consentini Associates.
