Daniel Avraham has made history at Yale University after having been elected as the first Israeli to serve as the institution’s student union president.

The 24-year-old Jerusalem native is a graduate of Gymnasia Herzliyah high school and a former intelligence officer in the IDF.

A sophomore in Yale’s exclusive program for ethics and economics, Avraham was elected this week to serve as president of the YCC, the venerable New Haven, Connecticut-based institution’s student union.

Alumni of the centuries-old university include a number of former American presidents, among them both Presidents George Bush (senior and junior), as well as Bill Clinton.

In addition, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and current Secretary John Kerry graduated from Yale, as well as countless other CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, politicians, philosophers and other world leaders.
