Jerry Seinfeld is bringing his stand-up act to the tri-state area with three upcoming concerts in April and August. Seinfeld will headline Stand Up for a Cure, a benefit for the American Diabetes Association, at Madison Square Garden in New York City on April 17. Fox 5 anchorwoman Rosanna Scotto will host the show, which will also feature special guest Colin Quinn. The 8:00 p.m. show will be preceded by a VIP cocktail reception hosted by Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza.
On April 26, Seinfeld hits the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. On August 3, he performs at the MGM Grand Theater at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn.
Since his classic NBC sitcom ended in 1998, Seinfeld, 58, has remained active, mostly touring the country performing. In 2002, he wrote a children’s book entitled “Halloween.” In 2008, he voiced the main role in the animated feature “Bee Movie,” which he also co-produced and co-wrote. He is also a frequent guest on various talk shows.
Seinfeld was born in Brooklyn and raised in Massapequa, Long Island. His father was of Austrian Jewish descent and his mother is of Syrian Jewish descent. In 1976, after graduating from Queens College, he tried out at an open mike night at New York City’s Catch a Rising Star, which led to an appearance in a Rodney Dangerfield HBO special. But Seinfeld’s big break came in 1981 after a killer performance on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,” which led to many more appearances with Carson, as well David Letterman and numerous other shows.
According to Forbes magazine, Seinfeld’s annual earnings from his sitcom in 1998 was $267 million, making him the highest-earning celebrity that year. He reportedly turned down $5 million per episode, for 22 episodes, to continue the show for a tenth season. He earned $100 million from syndication deals and stand-up appearances in 2005 and $60 million in 2006. He also earned $10 million for appearing with Bill Gates in Microsoft’s 2008 ads for Windows. Between June 2008 and June 2009, Seinfeld earned $85 million, making him the highest-paid comedian during that 12-month period.
Seinfeld has been married to Jessica Sklar since 1998. They have one daughter and two sons.
