Investigators say Nathan David Rabinowich (above) used the AOL screen names NYC-NORMAL100 and NORMALGENTNYC to lure a minor for sex.A Brooklyn rabbi who runs a local travel company was arrested Wednesday, February 20, for trying to solicit sex with a minor.

Rabbi Nathan David Rabinowich left his Midwood home on Valentine’s Day, expecting to meet a 14-year-old he had been in contact with, for sex. The only catch was that the girl was actually an undercover NYPD agent, and the rabbi was arrested at the scene.

Mr. Rabinowich had been sending the covert agent sexually explicit texts since last December, and resumed again over the past two weeks. They agreed to meet at an undisclosed location in Queens last week, where he intended to rape her, according to police.

The 59-year-old rabbi runs a local synagogue, and is the owner of a tour company called Jewish Heritage Tours, which he runs from his Midwood home.

The company’s website, jhtours.org, states that the most recent trip to Kivrei Tzaddikim locations across Europe is back due to “popular demand,” of which the itinerary “has been designed for the very ‘Balabatish’ and intelligent traveller, who possesses much stamina, who wants to seriously learn about the Jewish heritage…”

However, some online feedback for the rabbi’s agency has not been kind on Fodors.com, a site that posts reviews for travel destinations, hotels and restaurants.

“Rabbi [Nathan David Rabinowich] showed a complete disregard for the well-being and welfare of those on the tour,” wrote a disgruntled customer.

“He was abusive and constantly lied…. Many of the things promised on the itinerary were not provided, e.g., appropriate food and some promised sites. Simply stated, he lied about many things, did the bare minimum, and did not follow through on all that he had promised. of knowledge, and failure to adequately educate the group was readily apparent,” added the reviewer.

While the jury is still out on the future of the Rabbi’s business, if convicted of attempted rape and the two other “luring” charges he’s accused of, he faces up to four years in prison.

“It is disturbing that a man who is supposed to be held in high esteem by the community in which he lives would allegedly try to lure a child to meet him for sex,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown aid in a statement. “It is imperative that parents monitor their children’s online activities to protect them from the Internet predators that we know are out there looking for victims.”

Rabinowich was released from jail on a $25,000 bail on Thursday, February 15, and is expected to appear back in court on March 7th.
