A gala golf outing presented by the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) NY Real Estate Division at Glen Oaks Country Club in Old Westbury on September 10 raised over $250,000 to benefit Israeli soldiers who heroically served their country and are now in need of personal assistance.
Two hundred of New York’s most prestigious real estate professionals came together for the event, which began with a golf tournament in the morning and concluded with a dinner presentation featuring IDF soldiers. The Golf Outing Event Chairs were Joel Seiden, Jeffrey Mann and Ofer Yardeni, Chairman of the FIDF NY Real Estate Division.
Three active duty IDF soldiers traveled especially to New York from Israel to attend the event and share their stories with FIDF supporters. One of them was Maj. Eliran Avnaim, a professional golfer who is also an operational officer for the 93rd Battalion (Kfir Brigade) and was a platoon commander in the Second Lebanon War. At the event, many of the real estate professionals were grateful for the opportunity to play a hole with Eliran.
After the golf outing, guests enjoyed a beautiful cocktail hour followed by an evening program that paid tribute to IDF soldiers. Cpl. Zev Simcha Grushka, a tank commander originally from Long Island and one of three sons in his family to make Aliyah and serve in the IDF, spoke about his experience.
Soldier Cpl. Hadar Reisin Tzur, who is a Lone Soldier serving as a simulator instructor in the IDF, and IMPACT! Scholarship recipient Lia Naidorf, who served as a combat soldier in the canine unit in the IDF and today is studying physical education at Wingate University, also participated in the event.
The FIDF NY Real Estate Division was started in 2006 by a group of successful business and philanthropic leaders who were passionate about uniting members of the real estate community in support of Israel’s soldiers. The division has supported several capital projects including a wellbeing center at Revaya Base for Battalion 71 of the 188th Bridage, as well as other FIDF wellbeing programs to benefit the soldiers, and is an integral part of FIDF’s Tri-State Region.
FIDF was established in 1981 by a group of Holocaust survivors as a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing and supporting educational, social, cultural, and recreational programs and facilities for the heroic men and women of the Israel Defense Forces. Today, FIDF has more than 120,000 loyal supporters, and 16 regional offices throughout the United States and Panama. FIDF proudly offers its support to the IDF soldiers and their families through a variety of unique and innovative programs. These opportunities reinforce the vital bond between the communities in the United States, the soldiers of the IDF, and the State of Israel.
