Australian Chabad Youth Leader Cleared of Abuse Charges

Published

on

A former Chabad-Lubavitch youth leader in Australia has been cleared of multiple child abuse charges. Melbourne resident Aron “Ezzy” Kestecher, 27, was originally charged last year with four counts of indecent acts on a child under age 16.

Writing on Facebook, Kestecher stated, “All charges gone. I never lost hope in G-d. It was Judaism that was the issue.” While Kestecher was exonerated in this case, such was not the outcome for David Cyprys, who was previously employed as a security guard at Yeshivah College in Melbourne. Cyprys is scheduled to go on trial in one year on 41 counts of child molestation. Cyprys has pleaded not guilty to committing abusive acts on 12 students at Yeshivah College during the 1980s. Three of the victims currently live in the United States.

Yeshiva College is located on the same campus as the Chabad headquarters in Melbourne. It has reassured parents that it maintains the strictest protocols to safeguard all Yeshiva College students.
