Israel will host the third annual Masada Opera Festival, featuring five performances of Bizet’s Carmen at the foot of Masada, June 7 and 9-12.

The festival will take place in a specially crafted ‘Opera Village’, including a massive stage, sand dunes and food stalls, and featuring a mega-production of Carmen conducted by Israeli maestro Daniel Oren alongside the Israeli Opera Orchestra and Chorus, and international opera stars Anita Rachvelishvili and Marco Berti.

The Masada Opera Festival will also host a special concert featuring the Idan Raichel Project alongside international musicians Mamadou Diabate, Martha Gomez and Andreas Scholl, at the foot of Masada, June 8.
“We are very excited to host the upcoming Masada Opera Festival, which is expected to draw more than 50,000 travelers and opera lovers around the world to Israel,” said Haim Gutin, Israel Commissioner for Tourism, North and South America. “The magical atmosphere combining critically acclaimed opera singers and musicians amidst one of the world’s greatest natural wonders will surely excite travelers arriving in Israel next month.”

In addition, the festival will sponsor open-air screenings of each performance in three different locations in Israel, including Gan Hashlosha in the north, the Netanya Promenade Amphitheater and the plaza of the Beersheva Museum, beginning at 10 PM every festival evening.
