Rabbi Ichay was a member of B’nai B’rith, ORT and the Atlanta Jewish Community Center and had served as president of the Atlanta District of the Zionist Organization of America. He is survived by his wife Blanchette, and their son, David.
Solomon Robert Ichay, Rabbi Emeritus of Or VeShalom of Atlanta, passed away on Monday, at the age of . Born in Tunisia, educated in the UK and Zimbabwe, he had been in Atlanta since 1969. Rabbi Ichay was educated in London and graduated from University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Having served three years as a student rabbi at England’s Manchester Congregation of Spanish and Portuguese Jews, his first full pulpit was at the Sephardic Hebrew Congregation in Salisbury where he remained for nine years. In 1969, Rabbi Ichay came to Atlanta as spiritual leader of Or VeShalom.
